Most of Sunnyvale was built on old fruit orchards between the 1950s and the 1970s. That means flat-roof Eichlers with metal flues, brick ranch chimneys, and lots of factory-built fireplaces that are now 40 or 50 years old. We know these houses, we know what fails on them, and our Kifer Rd crew takes calls at any hour.
Pick a situation
Where a flue passes through a low-slope or foam roof, the seal ages out and water tracks along the beams.
Many Eichlers vent through single metal pipes that rust, separate at joints or lose their insulation.
Brick ranch-house chimneys settle and crack, especially where the ground was once irrigated orchard.
Those classic hanging or cone fireplaces need clearances, hearth protection and a sound flue to stay safe.
Thousands of 1970s and 80s Valley homes got metal "zero-clearance" fireplaces. They're safe when maintained, but they are not brick, and they age differently.
Smooth refractory panels instead of individual firebricks, often with a metal frame around the opening.
Look up past the damper. A round steel pipe, not a square clay tile, means factory-built.
Outside, the "chimney" is a wood-framed box in stucco or siding, topped with a sheet-metal pan.
Usually inside the opening or behind a grille, naming the maker and model. We use it to source parts.
Everything a Valley fireplace needs, whether you plan to use it every week or retire it for good.

Plenty of Valley owners rarely light a fire anymore. We'll lay out the honest pros and costs of each option.
Fix panels, flue, cap and chase so the original fireplace is safe again.
An insert gives the look and heat with a switch, no ash and no smoke.
Cap the top, seal the damper and stop drafts and leaks for good.
Take out the unit and chase or chimney during a remodel, roof patched clean.

Yes, we answer around the clock. Smoke backing into the room, a chimney that sounds like it's roaring, or rain pouring through the ceiling at the flue are all worth a call any hour. For fire or a gas smell, call 911 first.
Look for smooth panels instead of firebrick, a round metal flue above the damper, a wood-framed chase outside, and a metal label plate with the maker and model. If you're not sure, a photo is usually enough for us to tell.
Usually, yes. We match replacements to the unit's listing. If a model's parts are no longer made, we'll talk through a new listed unit or an insert instead.
Most original chase pans were galvanized steel that holds water. Over decades they rust through and drip into the chase. A sloped stainless cover fixes it.
Yes. We service the metal flues, flat-roof seals and freestanding fireplaces common in Eichler and other mid-century homes, and coordinate with your roofer when the roof is being redone.
Yes. We take down prefab chases or brick chimneys, cap or remove the flue, and leave the roof ready for your contractor to finish.
